Popping the Question!

WOW!! I can not believe that it has been THREE YEARS ago, today, that K made me the happiest woman in the world!
I have never shared the sweet story on my blog before and believe it or now... I'm not going to!
Since I know you all love hearing K tell stories, I figure I would let him do the "talking" here too. :) Here is the story of how K asked me to marry him not too many moons ago ;) I love this story- and was completely shocked when it actually happened... he had me fooled alright!

at the beach right after he proposed

How it happened...

We were at Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, for the annual Family beach vacation.  For the first couple of days, I tried to convince Allie that we should just go to the courthouse and get married, skipping an engagement and all the headache of planning a wedding.  She on the other hand, wanted the traditional way of getting married with me down on one knee, a ring, long engagement, and a big wedding with all the frills.  Then I launched into what a hassle that was, I would have to find a ring, plot a romantic scenario, and everything else that goes along with it.  Allie insisted that was the route to go, so I said to her, "maybe when you're older."  That was to hint that it was a possibility for her birthday, two months away.  For those of you who know Allie, that wasn't going to cut it.  If she wants something, she does not like to wait!
That night, everyone went out to dinner together at Ella's of Calabash.  The plan was for Allie and I to go for a walk after dinner and I would pop the question then.  The only member of the family that had any clue that it was going to happen was Allie's stepmom, Sonja.  When we arrived back at the house, everyone wanted to go for ice cream, so this delayed our walk.  When we got back from ice cream, I suggested that we could go for a walk, allowing for some "us" time.  As we walked out on the back deck, Grandaddy was rocking in a chair by himself, so Allie decided we should sit and talk to him.  This led to a couple others joining us, so I again suggested we hit the beach.  That time we actually made it out the door.
As we were walking down the beach, we talked about how the summer was going and what are plans were as far as our future together was concerned.  After ten or fifteen minutes of walking, I stopped her, took her by the hands and said, "I figured since this beach was the first place I told you I loved you, its only fitting that this is the place I ask you to marry me."  With that, I got down on one knee in the sand and said, "Allison, would you pretty, pretty please marry me?"  Then with a face that went from completely confused when I first stopped her to a face of complete joy, she said "Yes, of course I will!"  Then I got up, we hugged and kissed, put the ring on her finger (even though it was too dark to see it, haha) and headed back to share the news with everyone.
Upon arrival, everyone had already gone to bed with the exception of Sonja and Allie's cousin, Laurel.  Sonja was on the phone with Allie's mom, exchanging gossip as to if tonight was the night that I was going to pop the question.  Sonja quickly got off the phone, everyone got excited and we went out on the porch to call whoever may still be up to share the news with!

AWARDS & GIVEAWAYS!!

Okay yall I am so thrilled. For multiple reasons!!

1) I won this AMAZING "Your blog is BREATH-TAKING" award from Sarah @ We're just like you only prettier!  If you don't read her blog you need to!! We joke that we are twins because we have so much in common!! so... a BIG thank you, Sarah for the award!!

Here are the questions that go along with the award:
1. What inspires you?  The little babies that I teach everyday... they inspire me to love better and to teach better.  They also remind me that there is a little child in us all ... or some of us maybe a LOT ha :)
2. What is your favorite season and why?  Well... you can pretty much take Sarah's answer and copy and paste it here. Except I'm not as cool as her because I don't have a drop top, sad day.  ha!  But really, I LOOOVE summer! I love spending time with my family and now that I am a teacher I just am so excited that I will get to really enjoy this time again. I have grow up going to my families beach house every year during the summer... such great memories there such as K proposing to me... swoon!
the day after he proposed!
 3. What are you most looking forward to this year? A new life... new adventures... and spending it with the ones I love the most!! And right now- spring break (at the beach hopefully) and summer ha! {seriously though}
relaxing and enjoying the sunset maybe!?
 4. If you could write a book about anything, what would it be about? Honestly, I  could never!  I am so ADD that I can barely sit still long enough to write a blog entry without being distracted. ha! If I did though, maybe funny quotes of my daddy and the fun slangs that he used to create... or so we thought he created... "Riders on the Storm!" haha

5.What is your greatest passion? LOVING the Lord by far is my GREATEST!  Even though I do not deserve it at all he loves and forgives me a million times over and over and over! Other than Him... it would be loving kids. And loving others- I'm not great at it I will admit but I do genuinely love people and am a huge people person!

 6. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?  I would be less lazy and less self-conscious and less judgmental and critical of myself and others.  I have tons of room for growth here!
7.  Lastly, What is your favorite Novel? By far it has to be The Notebook and The Wedding.  Those books were sooo great and the Notebook was so way better than the movie its not even funny!! MMM romance!
okay I must admit just googling images for this I am now drooling over tons of photos and people who did engagement photos like this couple... maybe K & I can do this for our anniv or something... check this couple out at this post!  I am so jealous and will probably be watching this movie going to bed tonight. yup. :)

I am passing this lovely award on to

Kelly @ Happy Day World!
Sonja @ For the Love of Stilettos!
Danielle @ The Lenz Family!

NC Trip & Picture preview

Well the time has come and gone and let me just tell you that K and I had a wonderful time in our home state!! :)
It was the busiest trip ever with trying to get lots of pre-wedding stuff taken care of as we will not be back there till the week before the wedding.  We successfully picked out our flowers and took our engagement pics as well as my bridal pics.  We enjoyed multiple dinners at our favorite Mexican restaurant (they will also be catering at our wedding reception- wahoo!) We enjoyed seeing old friends and of course enjoyed the company of our family!!
Here is one preview of our engagement pics- short story first: Yes, K and I both actually play these instruments- neither of us are much good, but we are teaching ourselves.  K got his banjo for Christmas and I have been playing the Violin since I was six but gave it up several years ago- within the past few years I have tried to pick it back up. :) Enjoy- more to come later!
